The Table provides a new way to live out your faith…
Without the baggage of “church.” At our gatherings, we discuss life’s biggest questions, eat and drink together, pass the mic, tell stories, sing, care for one another’s wounds, and share one another’s joys. We are a COMMUNITY.
Are you thinking of leaving church forever?
But you’re afraid of losing connection with God, community, higher purpose, meaning, and the sacred…
Does church seem irrelevant to the dire environmental and social justice issues we face?
Even though scripture has thousands of verses about caring for orphans and prisoners and the sick and the poor, even though Jesus’s ministry critiqued the powerful and provided alternate community and turned dangerous and dehumanizing cultural norms upside down.
Are you queer or deconstructing or spiritual-but-not-religious, and looking for a progressive spiritual community?
Because the things you were taught about gender and sexuality and “the world” and other religions and sin and God feel like the opposite of Good News — which should be loving, and life-giving, and generous.
Do you sense there are better ways to honor the sacred than sitting in a pew?
Maybe you feel most alive when you are in nature. Maybe you feel deeply moved when you help a stranger or are helped by a stranger. Maybe you’ve had religious experiences at concerts, in classrooms, at protests, or looking into the eyes of an animal. There are so many ways to experience the sacred, and at The Table we honor all of them. We invite your stories about what feels most sacred to you. As we say at the beginning of every gathering, “Here at The Table, what’s sacred to you is sacred to us.”
Come to the Table. There’s a place set for you.
If you are craving connection, community, spirituality, and higher purpose… if spiritual and religious institutions have failed you, cast you out, or run you down…
Come to The Table.
At The Table, we are Jesus followers, not Christians. We focus not on what you believe but on what Jesus committed himself to: gathering, feeding, healing, transforming and listening to people of all faiths and all genders.
Be part of something revolutionary.
The church (as it is) is not a given; it’s an outdated form that is not suited to meet the needs of this society and world in crisis. We have a chance to create new ways of living out our faith.
We are doing this at The Table by focusing on the basic human need for connection. We gather because people want connection to God, self, and others — no creed, no questions, no tests of faith.
At The Table, we are exploring what it means to be a community that is not beholden to any of the traditions of church. Without any of the “no, you can’t do that” attitude. We can do this because we are denominationally independent. We can do this because we are building on experience, research and passion—not institutions, legacy members, and church ladies.
At our gatherings, we have folks who identify as Christians, people who are disgusted by that name, people who don’t know what they believe, and people who just love the chance to pause, connect deeply, think, feel, and be inspired.
We’d love to see you around The Table. We meet monthly at The New Deal Restaurant (out back on the patio) at 5 pm. Check this page for upcoming dates.
We welcome kids and dogs and keep toys and treats handy for them.
